The Story Behind Plumeria Counseling

The Plumeria flower is a symbol of hope, love and new beginnings.   When I lived in Hawaii, the Plumeria flower became a symbol in my life for how starting new isn't always easy, but I learned that along that road, it can also lead to feeling the most whole, healed and alive.  In Hawaii I discovered personal gratitude for the growth that comes with new beginnings.  When I moved to Tennessee I discovered an evidenced based model called emotionally focused therapy that helps couples and individuals start a new beginning in such a compassionate way, by valuing our humanity.  I fell in love.  I have not only witnessed couples benefit from this therapy, but it has also challenged and grown me personally each time I step into practicing it.

The courage couples have to do this work continues to amaze me.  Since the work can be hard and scary.  This kind of work not only reconstructs the relationship once known, but it can also cause us to engage with ourselves personally in a new and healing way.  The relationship is not only getting a new start, but the individuals in the relationship also get to slow down enough to start a new beginning for their hurting parts to begin to breathe, be seen and healed not just by their spouse, but by themselves too.   Slowing down together takes courage, but is rewarding.

After moving to Connecticut I wanted to continue to serve couples with my clinical experience in emotionally focused therapy and personal passion for the new beginnings. I wanted to continue creating a safe space for couples and individuals to do the sacred work of starting a new beginning. 

 

I opened Plumeria Counseling to offer a safe space for relationships to do the intimate, messy, scary, but highly meaningful and rewarding work of deconstructing the patterns that have kept them apart and rebuilding a new relationship together that is intimate, secure and sustainable.
