Why is ICEEFT Important?

ICEEFT is the ‘home base’ in a sense, for EFT therapists to gain their experience, training, expertise, support and credentialing in this therapeutic modality. Any therapist who wants to become competent in practicing EFT are required to receive their training through trainers under ICEEFT.  Counselors can also become certified in EFT, in which ICEEFT holds specific standards counselors must meet in order to receive this kind of designation.  To become certified, counselors must provide required credentialing information, meet a certain number of supervision hours with an EFT supervisor under ICEEFT, attend the required trainings, and provide recordings (with the consent of their clients) to display their ability to implement the core skills in the session room that they must have to effectively provide EFT. All certified EFT therapists must also be a member of ICEEFT.  ICEEFT is incredibly important in supporting the quality of care clients receive from counselors who desire to practice EFT.

There are three different certifications a counselor can pursue through ICEEFT.  They can certify in emotionally focused individual therapy (EFIT), emotionally focused couples therapy (EFCT), and Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT).  ICEEFT provides accountability and credibility for EFT therapists by supporting therapists through a plethora of trainings and EFT communities in various locations in order to continue to remain ‘tuned’ into their EFT skills.
